Rocky Mount makes a quaint, peaceful home for all who reside here. It could use a climbing gym though...

      Cousin Grandpop,
Good to see people trying to bring people together. I do not live in Rocky Mount, I actually live clear in NJ. But my husband have been talking of moving to VA for years and the week of mothers day we traveled throughout VA and we really liked the area of Rocky mount we liked the little towns while still having places like SML not to far (We have a son in college and one who will be graduating High school next year) Good area for the young adults.I grew up at the shore my husband in the mountains (PA) this is the best of both worlds. my question to any body from Rocky mount would be Does any one have a home for sale with a little property? and what can you tell me about the area that I would not know just driving through or surfing the web? Thanks for any responses.

I am a screen writer at Hollins University writing about a ghostly incident that occurs in Rocky Mount. I had intended to "make it up" but wondered if you had any real stories I could use. Also, what makes Rocky Mount famous or very unique? Thanks! Amy

        Amy,

The old mansion (T. Keister Greer's place) is haunted. They also have a small bookshop out front (the blue lady - or something like that.) I'm sure you can search the names to find out the story and more info.

Hi back, Rick! I've been out to the Greer mansion and talked with the owner, the delightful Ibby Greer. The place is wonderful- full of electricity! I'm getting lots of impressions and ideas to add to my screenplay based in Rocky Mount. If you have any cool anecdotal info on the area, let me know! Amy

Was wondering if you knew if there was still a place in Franklin County where you can ride trains. I heard that there was some place called blue ridge steamers but when I've done a search I can't find anything. My son is really into trains and I would love to take him if this place is still open. If you could let me know it would be great.

There is a club of some sort in the Wirtz area. I am pretty sure it is privately owned, but there was a story on it in the Roanoke Times in the past year. Perhaps someone could help out to find it......?

      Cousin Grandpa,

I was so happy to come across your blog. I have not been to Rocky Mount in 20 years (since leaving Ferrum) I loved it then and I'm sure I would love it now. I hope to come for a visit soon as I'm sure many things have changed. I've also been trying to find out what happened to 2 people that I knew from Rocky Mount back in the day (85-87) Do you know S. R. Vaughn (the son) and/or Miggy Smith? They were both good people and I just wanted to see where they might be these days. Keep on with the blog!

        CG,

I somehow missed this response. Is this related to finding my friends? Or a place you suggest I visit? Are the leaves changing down that way yet?

Wow! That was a super fast response. I appreciate the information. Thank you. I'm not sure it would be appropriate for me to call/write him after all these years. No need to complicate things for him. I'm just glad to know where he is and what he's doing. Maybe you could tell him I asked about him.

Where would you recommend staying in town these days? I'm thinking of attending Ferrum's Homecoming in October.

I THINK YOU SHOULD CONTACT HIM. HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT WOULD COMPLICATE THINGS FOR HIM? MAYBE HE'S WONDERING ABOUT YOU TO AND HE JUST DON'T KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT FINDING YOU. YOU SHOULD NEVER LIVE IN DOUBTS BUT ALWAYS IN POSSIBILITIES. A GREAT PLACE TO STAY IS THE HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS. IT IS THE NEWEST HOTEL WE HAVE WITH AN INDOOR POOL AND IT STAYS PRETTY BUSY.

Well...you just made me smile! I'm not so sure it's ok for me an "old friend" to just barge back in his life life. Is he married? Do his parents still live in town?

Hmm....I guess if I'm coming in October I better check on a room quickly. Thank you for letting me know.
